A real-estate executive has closed on a deal to buy a penthouse at the Beverly West Residences for $21 million, marking one of the most expensive condo sales ever completed in the Los Angeles area, according to public records.

Richard Lewis said he is trading up: He and his wife Federica Lewis are turning in their half-floor unit back to the developer as part of the deal. They paid $5 million for that lower-floor unit around 2012.

Mr. Lewis said the new place has a 360-degree view, including a better look at the golf courses of the adjacent Los Angeles Country Club. “It’s nice to see the green,” he added.

The unit is about 7,975 square feet with three bedrooms, has floor-to-ceiling windows and comes fully furnished. The building, on the Wilshire Corridor of Los Angeles, has a fitness center, a saltwater pool and spa, a sunbathing deck and a helipad.
