San Diego’s sunshine often requires that we indulge in refreshing treats. The perfect bite for those cruising the Mission Beach boardwalk or soaking up rays on nearby sand is a Dole Whip from Belmont Park.
But who are we kidding? There are people who would gladly drive the distance to eat this cult classic, which was formerly only available at Disneyland, Disney World and in Hawaii.
I am one of those people. On a toasty February Sunday — the kind that reminds us exactly why we live here — I let my sweet tooth lead me to the historic oceanfront amusement center for sole purpose of devouring one of these pineapple-flavored, soft-serve frozen desserts swirled neatly into a cup.
